Welcome to the
Two Bears
web site featuring the adventures of
November 21, 2016 to November 28, 2015
We went on a vacation the week of
Thanksgiving to
Land of Canaan Vacation Resort in
Davis, WV.
The resort is pretty small and not particularly fancy, but it was nice for us. It's out in the middle-of-no-where and quiet, two of our requirements.
We took a lot of food with us, which was wise because there aren't a lot of restaurants in the area. The town of
Davis, WV, is about 9 miles away.
October 24, 2015
Gram and Pap came down for a few days, and Tammie took them to
McFadden Art Glass. Gram and Tammie made necklaces, but Pap didn't make anything
October 1, 2015 to October 6, 2015
Aunt Cheryl came for a visit! It was the first time she'd been in Maryland, so we had to make it special. She flew in Thursday evening
and Friday we took her up to
Lancaster County, PA. We went to
Sight and Sound Theater to see
Joseph. We stayed at the
Best Western Premier Eden Resort & Suites in Lancaster. We had a very nice two-room suite, but the best part was the chocolate that we were given at check-in! While we were in the Lancaster area, we went on
Aaron and Jessica's Amish Buggy Ride.
On the way home, we stopped at Neuchatel Swiss Chocolates. Bobo wanted to get a cow-shaped piece of chocolate for our milk man.
Then Tammie took Cheryl to McFadden Art Glass, where Cheryl make a star fish.
For Cheryl's birthday, we went on another
Duck (DUKW) tour, this time around Washington, D.C.

Happy 14th Anniversary Tammie and Paul
To help celebrate, we did something out of this world!
UWingu.com allows people (and Bears) to name craters on Mars!
Unfortunately, the
International Astronomical Union says this goes
against internationally recognised standards
and no purchased names can ever be used on official maps and globes (which seems a bit selfish). Oh, well.
The good new is the
Mars One project, which is trying to
establish a permanent human settlement on Mars, does
recognize Uwingu names.
- The goal of the project is to engage the audience in Mars exploration and to generate a new funding
stream for private space related projects in the field of space exploration, space research, or space education.
- The name you choose will go down in history, traveling to Mars on board our 2018 lander and
will be used by our future astronauts.
- Mars One will carry a digital copy of the resulting Mars Map on board its 2018 unmanned Mars Lander and
will use the Uwingu crater names as part of Mars One mission operations.
We'll be famous!
We (Mr. Bear and Bobo) named a crater TwoBears, and Jr. Bear wanted to get in on the action and named one Jr. Bear.
For those of you who might have forgotten, we were the guest book attendants at the wedding.
August 28, 2015 to September 7, 2015
Tammie entered the maze quilt (from which she got the idea at
MegaMazes.com) into the
Maryland 2015 State Fair.
She won an honorable mention in the wall-hanging hand applique category.
August 18, 2015 to August 22, 2015
Aunt Terrie and Cousin Seth were here for a few days. The main attraction was going to
McFadden Art Glass.
August 8, 2015 to August 15, 2015
Tammie entered a quilt in the
Howard County 2015 Fair. She won first place in
the tied quilts category! The quilt is a maze, which she got from
MegaMazes.com. It took her about 10 years to complete it.
(Just to be clear, we weren't at the fairgrounds the entire week.)
June 8, 2015 to July 10, 2015
We've had some visitors over the past month. Cousin Anna came for a week, then there were no visitors for a week.
Then Cousin Rebekah came for a week, then we took her to Gram and Pap's in PA for a week. When we came home, Cousin Rebekah
and Cousin Lozetta came with us. Cousin Rebekah went home the next day, but Cousin Lozetta stayed for the week. Whew!
It was like a train station here!
May 29, 2015 to May 31, 2015
A trip to
Hershey, PA the home of
Hershey's Chocolate! We went to
The Hershey Story Museum on
Chocolate Avenue, home of the
Hershey Chocolate Lab.
This has been one of Mr. Bear's dreams! We were able to mould our own chocolate, and add our
own flavors to it.
Unfortunately, as we left
The Hershey Story, the car started
making strange sounds and lost power. We were barely able to coast into the parking lot of a
Dunkin' Donuts, then called
AAA. A tow truck eventually came and towed us to
Goodyear Auto Service. As it turned out, the
serpentine belt came off the pulley.
This happened about 4:30 PM, and we finally got to a hotel about 9:30. It was a long day.
Tammie was able to pick up the car Saturday evening.
The reason we were in
Hershey, PA, in the first place was to attend the
annual convention of the
National Association of Milk Bottle Collectors.
It's held at the Grantville, PA,
Holiday Inn.
Paul and Tammie had fun looking at milk bottles and hearing people discuss them. Paul bought a few bottles, including two
twin face milk bottles.
May 11, 2015 to May 17, 2015
We returned home from Richmond, VA, on the 10th, and on the 11th we drove to
Boston, MA. Actually, we (Mr. Bear and Bobo) didn't drive,
Paul drove and we were just passengers along with Tammie. We finally bought an
E-ZPass to zip through the toll booths faster.
(We actually bought ours in
Pennsylvania because it cost less than buying one in
Maryland.)
During the week we visited several states for the first time, and got
Geocaches in
five different states.
Our favorite was
Little Free Library Dedicated Cache (GC57G6Y).
We got to see some
Boston sites while we were there. Monday we were caught in
Boston traffic, which we would recommend avoiding.
On Tuesday we went on the
Boston Super Tour, which included a
Duck (DUKW) tour around Boston harbor.
We also went to
Faneuil Hall and
Quincy Market in downtown
Boston. At
Faneuil Hall we had a person draw our
Caricature.
Wednesday we did most of our
Geocaching.
Near the end of the week, we did get to see the first
Dunkin' Donuts, opened in
May 1950.
The main purpose of the trip was to
see cousin Lozetta in her Bible Quizzing. The quizzing was held at
Eastern Nazarene College in
Quincy, MA.
This was Lozetta's first regional quiz and she came in 10th in her division!
May 8, 2015 to May 10, 2015
Part one of a long vacation! We were a bit south of
Richmond, VA for cousin Anna's dance recital. We arrived
on Friday, the recital was Saturday and we left for home Sunday. While we were driving on the
Washington, DC
Beltway, we saw a bunch of
World War II
airplanes. The
traffic was moving very slowly and a lot of cars were pulled over to the side of the Interstate to
see the air show. We suspect it was a practice run for
Memorial Day.
April 24, 2015 to April 26, 2015
We spent the weekend in
Ocean City, MD. We were there with a bunch of friends we've known for years. On the way to
Ocean City we stopped at
Chesapeake Bay Farms, Inc. for ice cream in
Berlin, MD. We stayed at the
Grand Hotel and Spa on the
Ocean City Boardwalk.
February 13, 2015 to February 15, 2015
We spent the weekend at
The Country Inn at High View, in
High View, WV. The Inn is a beautiful house specifically built to be a
bed and breakfast. The view from the front of the house is the mountains in the distance. The Inn
is out in the middle of nowhere, with a drive way that's nearly a 1/2 mile long! Restaurants are quite a
drive, though. Tammie and Paul ate all of their meals in
Winchester, WV, which is about
30 minutes away. We snacked on the
cookies which were left out for us, and the milk Paul brought.
Also staying at the inn was
Rose Likins and her husband. Rose was the
ambassador to
Peru from 2010 to 2014.
We had breakfast with them one morning and Paul and Rose had a nice discussion about
Peru, and she had even been to
Yarinacocha, where Paul grew up!
